Forget-Me-Not
In Germany, the forget-me-not is a symbol of remembrance and loyalty.

Woodland Forget-Me-Not is one of the most beloved plants in European gardens, and for good reason. This enchanting biennial has been cultivated for centuries, treasured for its remarkable simplicity and generous flowering. It originates from the forested regions of Europe and Asia, where it still grows wild in shaded corners beside streams and damp clearings.
The tiny, delicate flowers of forget-me-not are truly a wonder of nature. Each blossom, like a miniature star, unfolds on long, slender stems above a soft carpet of foliage. Predominantly blue with a yellow 'eye' at the centre, breeders have gifted us pink, white, and even deeper blue varieties. They bloom from April to June, filling the garden with light and air.
In the garden, forget-me-not is a wonderful companion for those spaces where other plants refuse to thrive. It contentedly exists in dappled shade beneath tree canopies, amongst shrubs, and along pond edges. It looks splendid in mixed beds, woodland streams, and containers. The paradox of forget-me-not lies in this: although it is a biennial, it self-seeds so generously that it seems a permanent garden visitor—each year it appears in unexpected places, as if gifted by spring itself.
In Germany, forget-me-not has become a symbol of memory and faithfulness—perhaps because it returns so reliably year after year. If you wish your garden to shimmer with something delicate and trembling in blue light at all times, plant forget-me-not, and it will reward you with self-seeding millions of tiny stars.
