Guelder Rose (Viburnum opulus) is one of the most cherished ornamental shrubs among gardeners who value its hardiness and visual beauty. This plant of European origin has long become an integral part of Ukrainian gardens and culture. The white lacy flowers of the guelder rose appear in May–June, creating a light, airy effect in the garden. After flowering, clusters of berries form in place of the flowers—initially green, then turning a brilliant red. These fruits look particularly striking in autumn and winter when the foliage has fallen, providing valuable food for birds during the cold season.

The varieties of Guelder Rose are diverse: 'Roseum' (or 'Snowball') impresses with double white flowers resembling snowballs, while 'Compactum' is a compact form suited for smaller gardens. The red berries of wild forms persist on the branches for a long time, especially after the first frosts, when they become softer and sweeter. The foliage is also attractive—deeply lobed, turning burgundy and violet tones in autumn, adding vibrancy to the fall garden.

In the garden, Guelder Rose combines beautifully with rowan, elder, and wild rose, creating a living hedge or screen. It is undemanding in care and establishes well in all regions of Ukraine, regardless of your garden's size. This is a plant for those who want beauty without extra fuss.

Guelder Rose is one of the main symbols of Ukraine, deeply rooted in our history and folklore. To plant this shrub in your garden means not only to acquire a decorative plant but also to preserve a part of Ukrainian cultural heritage.
