Symptoms of Phytophthora

Dark water-soaked lesions on leaves and stems that rapidly turn brown. White mould on leaf undersides in humid conditions. Fruit develops brown rot. Entire plants can collapse within days.

How to treat Phytophthora

Apply protective fungicides (Ridomil, Acrobat) before symptoms appear. Remove and destroy all affected material. Hill up soil around potato stems. Avoid overhead watering. Use resistant varieties.
